NSRAA’s Otolith Data Provides Insight On Programs
NSRAA otolith marks all its chum eggs for identification of adults upon their return, but – until now – the organization was rarely able to study the information in season. This year (2015), thanks to extra manpower and the need to analyze the cost benefits of the 4.0 group, NSRAA was able to study the data as the season ended, providing timely information as the new year begins. Spring Troll Fisheries have been in progress since mid-April, with catch rates increasing in recent weeks. A total of about 7,758 kings have been landed to date (through May 28) Southeast-wide. NSRAA contribution estimates stand at 686 fish, or about 9% of the total harvest. We track the progress of the fisheries on our website on the 2015 Spring Troll Fishery page. Information will be updated several times each week through June. You can also find links to the ADF&G Spring Troll page which provide more detailed fishery information.
