Deep Inlet to Open Saturday August 27 for Troll, Sunday Seine……
Thursday August 25 at 2 pm ADF&G announced that Deep Inlet would reopen on Saturday August 27 beginning with a Troll rotation, followed by Seine on August 28, and Gillnet on August 29. This puts the fishery rotation in the normal sequence for the remainder of the season. Cost recovery should be completed today, August 26. There is something less than 100,000 lbs. remaining. We will make the final tally today and hope to close it out. If we do not complete cost recovery today we may harvest outside of the Deep Inlet THA but within NSRAA’s larger SHA. The chum are increasing by the day. We harvested 300,000 lbs on August 23 and already have 60,000 lbs this morning. That leaves 465,000 lbs to complete cost recovery. We expect to finish cost recovery sometime today or tomorrow. If we do finish cost recovery we will get an announcement out on Thursday or Friday. Most likely scenario is Troll Saturday, Seine Sunday, and Gillnet Monday/Tuesday.

Cost recovery boats caught 255,000 lbs yesterday. Total remaining is 825,000 lbs. SSS boats are fishing today. With some luck we should be finished by this weekend.

This is beginning to look like a big week. Boats have already caught over 100,000 lbs this morning and there are large schools along Makhnati, Aluetkina, Camp Coogan, and back in the inlet. I am expecting this to be our biggest day yet. Egg takes began this weekend. We have gone through 6,000 chum to date.

Good numbers of chum moved in along Makhnati, Long Island passes, and Deep Inlet on Sunday. 220,000 lbs were caught on Sunday with decent numbers still showing at dark. As of the morning of August 22 we have 1.07 million lbs to go.
