Deep Inlet to Close for Hidden Falls Broodstock – July 7, 2016

Deep Inlet will be closed July 7th for the seine rotation. This is a drastic action due to Hidden Falls run collapse. We will close until we have approximately 40,000 chum at or near the head of Deep Inlet. Chum will be collected with seine gear and rolled into two net pens for a total of 24,000 brood fish of the Hidden Falls stock. Excess chum at the head of Deep Inlet may be harvested for cost recovery to lessen the burden in August, but the goal is to collect the brood fish and get Deep Inlet open as quickly as possible. Brood fish will be towed to Medvejie hatchery and held for two weeks...

Mist Cove and Kasnyku Bay Closed Areas

Each year NSRAA has closed a small portion of the Special Harvest Area at both Mist Cove and Kasnyku Bays through an ADF&G emergency order. At the 2015 Board of Fisheries meeting two proposals were passed and put into regulation that close these same areas, which avoids annual EO’s. The regulation change doesn’t affect fisheries any differently than when they were closed by EO. NSRAA closes these areas in order to collect & protect broodstock, conduct economic harvest at times, and protect operational infrastructure such as net pens, barrier nets, living quarters, and...

Spring Troll Fisheries Underway

Spring Troll Fisheries have been in progress since mid-April, with catch rates increasing in recent weeks. A total of about 7,758 kings have been landed to date (through May 28) Southeast-wide. NSRAA contribution estimates stand at 686 fish, or about 9% of the total harvest. We track the progress of the fisheries on our website on the 2015 Spring Troll Fishery page.  Information will be updated several times each week through June. You can also find links to the ADF&G Spring Troll page which provide more detailed fishery information.
